Key Responsibilities

This position is responsible for operating and maintaining lab equipment, performing lab and field procedures, collecting and analysing samples using various microbiological methods, writing and maintaining reports of activities, and ordering supplies.The detailed responsibilities include:

Assess bacterial cultures for presence of food-associated bacteria including key food related pathogens based on morphology and follow-up testing.

Perform routine biochemical tests and other appropriate tests to differentiate pathogens from non-pathogens.

Collect and test raw materials, environmental samples, and finished products aseptically.

Maintain QC organisms, testing plated media, and rapid test supplies.

Participate in the implementation of new test methods and new technologies including Molecular Testing Methods and EIA and the development and review of company SOPs.

Maintain lab equipment verifications and calibrations.

Complete SOP and procedure audits and update where required.

Support special projects and trials.

Assist Lab Manager in supervising the daily operation of the laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or other life Science

3 - 5 years of microbiology laboratory experience in either food or medical

Molecular experience considered an advantage

Ability to understand and follow complex technical instructions

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Must be able to work independently and with a team

Must be able to work in a fast-paced setting, multi-task, and prioritize tasks

Pays close attention to detail and has strong analytical and organization skills

Willing to work a flexible schedule when needed to meet work demands
